Positive Facts and Healthy Benefits of Tanning

A limited amount of sunshine is good, it's like many other things in life.. when done in moderation the benefits are beneficial. Sunshine remains the best way for our bodies to make Vitamin D, so we need to get enough sunshine to generate the Vitamin D that our systems require.

Psychologists agree that increased exposure to sun light will help lift a person's mood and help to fight depression as well. Individuals who stay inside and avoid sun light are often depressed. Indoor tanning allows a person to be exposed to the healthy tanning rays, while reducing exposure to the burning rays. The result is not just a tan; it is an improved emotional state.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to wear protective eye wear?

Always wear eye protection! The eye-lid if thin and is extremely susceptible to UV light. While tanning, eyes should be completely covered with professional eyewear designed for tanners. Pick which kind works for you and use it!

What is the best lotion?

There is not a correct answer to this question. Everyone has their personal preferences as to what they expect a lotion to do and the results they expect receive. There are other variables to take into account also, such as: Skin type, tanning experience, oily skin, dry skin, the type of tanning lamps and tanning bed used etc. There are simply too many factors involved to determine what is the "BEST" lotion. Please speak with a staff member who will best be able to advice you according to your needs and expectations.

What is tingle factor?

A "tingle" is a stimulation of the epidermal layers of your skin. Most people feel their skin heat up or tingle after applying these lotions. The skin stimulation (irritation) brings blood closer to the surface of the skin. The blood brings melanin with it and you may receive a better tan. The tingle factors range from 1 to 10. The higher the number, the more intense the tingling. It is recommended you start with a tingle of 1 or 2 to become accustomed to the stimulation then gradually work up through the different levels.

What is a bronzer?

Bronzers are a dye that changes the color of your skin instantly. Some people love them and others hate them.

You have to be careful when applying bronzers as some will streak if not applied evenly, also real dry areas will absorb more of the bronzer and leave the skin a different color. Elbows, knees, between the fingers, and palms of hands are the most common spots. Many people that use bronzers will take wet wipes with them to clean these areas and hands immediately after applying bronzers.

I just can't get any darker, what can I do?

Your skin actually becomes thicker as your tanning progresses and makes It difficult for UV light to penetrate the upper layers of skin. This is commonly referred to as a tanning "Plateau". Moisturizer is extremely important at this point. Your skin cells are standing up as much as 45°and are actually reflecting the UV rays. Using a lot of moisturizing lotion will help these cells lay down and become more translucent, therefore more receptive to UV rays.

What can I do to tan my face & legs better?

Use a moisturizer at least twice daily. It's a fact that moist skin tans much better than dry skin Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize!

Should I shower after a tanning session?

The tanning process actually continues for a period of time after a tanning session. Taking a shower will remove the mantel acid from your skin and slow down or stop this continued tanning process. It is recommended you not shower for 2 hours after your tanning session or 1 hour before.

Can I use my tanning lotion outdoors?

Please do not! Indoor lotions usually DO NOT contain SPF, which will leave you with no sun protection from the sun’s UV rays. Outdoor UV rays can vary daily even hourly in intensity. It is recommended you use a SPF while tanning outdoors.

Can I use outdoor lotion in tanning beds?

Outdoor tanning lotions are not recommended for indoor use, as they can cause a film on the acrylic and will inhibit the tanning process. They may also harm the acrylic.

Can I use any moisturizer for my dry skin?

Use moisturizers that were specifically designed and developed for indoor tanning. Use it frequently while tanning. Properly moisturized skin tans much easier. We have several top vendors to choose from to help you keep your skin moist.

How long will it take to see results?

You should have a skin tone change after the first few tanning sessions. You should have a good base tan in 8-10 tanning sessions then one to three tanning sessions a week should maintain your tan in an entry level bed.

I'm new to tanning indoors, are there some precautions I need to be aware of?

Yes!
Don't try to rush your tan. A tan should be obtained gradually.
Gradually increase your exposure times, 1 to 2 minutes at a time.
Consult your physician if you are taking any medication. Some medication can cause extra sensitivity to the UV light, causing overexposure.
Also consult your physician If you have any type of skin irritation or other condition.
Always wear protective eyewear!! Ultraviolet light will penetrate the eyelids.

Why does my tan dissapear?

Your tan occurs on the outer layers of your skin, the epidermal layers. Those skin cells gradually die and are replaced with the next layer (un-tanned) every 26 to 30 days.

How do I get rid of pressure points?

ressure points are usually found on the shoulder blades, tailbone and elbow area. What you want to do is lift up, carefully off the acrylic, several times during your tanning session, to allow oxygen to get at that skin. Within a few tanning sessions, you should see them disappear.

Should I use Lip Balm?

Yes ,your lips do not produce melanin and will never develop a tan. However, UV light from the sun or sun bed will cause your lips to dry. When tanning, always keep your lips moist with a SPF lip balm.

If I have tatoos should I cover them?

Yes! Protect your ink from fading by applying a SPF lip balm to the area.

Did you know.....

Your skin may need more that 24 hours to recover after being exposed to ultraviolet light. We recommend that you space your tanning sessions 48-72 hours apart to allow proper recovery time and reduce the risk of overexposure.

Did you know.....

The heat that you feel while tanning is from the infrared spectrum of light and has absolutely nothing to do with the tanning process.
